Meet your doula

my heart is holding space for the ones who hold everyone else

ABOUT ME.

ABOUT ME.

Your smiling doula, McKenna, with shoulder-length wavy brown hair, wearing a black sheer dress with polka dots, sitting on a wooden chair against a textured beige wall.

MY journey to becoming a CERTIFIED BIRTH doula

I grew up on a farm and ranch on the Eastern Plains of New Mexico, where I learned early on what it meant to nurture, to watch over, and to respond to life with care. The bond between mother and baby—human or animal—was something I saw every day. It shaped how I moved through the world: with gentleness, attentiveness, and a natural instinct to hold space for others.

Even as a young girl, I dreamed of being a “baby catcher.” That desire followed me throughout the years eventually bringing me to University of New Mexicos College of Nursing with the goal of becoming an L&D nurse and ultimately a midwife. But it was the birth of my daughter that gave me the clearest sense of direction. Experiencing labor firsthand—its intensity, its vulnerability, and its power—opened something in me. I understood what it felt like to need to be held, seen, and supported. I also understood how profoundly that kind of care can shape a mother’s experience.

Becoming a doula has given me the opportunity to begin this work in a hands-on, heart-centered way. I believe deeply in mothering the mothers—in showing up with calm, informed presence for the one who is giving everything in that moment. This isn’t just a job; it’s an offering. And I’m honored to walk alongside families during such a sacred, transformative hour.

The heart behind the work

At home, I’m a wife to my husband, David, and a mother to our daughter, Emory — my heart outside of my body. My favorite part of parenting is learning alongside her; as she becomes a person, I become a better mother. She has shown me what it means to see the world with wonder again and has deepened my capacity to hold space with softness and strength. Our home is often filled with the chaos of daily life, but it’s the sound of her laughter — the ripple of joy in small moments — that makes me feel most grounded and at peace.

David has been my steady hand through every season — the one who reminds me of my strength when I forget. His quiet support has made space for my growth, my dreams, and the work I feel called to do. His partnership allows me to mother, to serve, and to dream with both feet on the ground. I’m endlessly grateful to be building this life together.

We spend our days chasing daylight, collecting tiny treasure in pockets, and embracing the kind of slow magic that lives in ordinary moments. They are my why — the reason I believe so deeply in holding families through their own beginnings. Because I know what it means to become, to be reshaped by love, and to want someone steady by your side as you do.
