“McKenna added both energy and calm to my birth experience. If I could change anything about my first two births, it would be having help from The Gentle Hour Birth Services. I am so grateful for McKenna's support.”

A doula is a trained professional who offers emotional and physical support to expectant mothers throughout pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period. While our primary focus is on the mother, we also provide support to her partner, ensuring that they are equally empowered and involved in the birth experience. However, it's important to understand that we do not replace the partner's role; instead, we work alongside them to create a positive, supportive environment.

A midwife is a licensed medical professional who is responsible for the medical care of the mother and baby. A doula, provides emotional and physical support to the mother but is not a medical provider.

As your doula, my role is to advocate for you by ensuring your voice is heard and your wishes are respected throughout your birth experience. I will provide you with the information you need to make informed choices, help you communicate your preferences to the medical team, and offer emotional support every step of the way. My goal is to empower you to feel confident, safe, and in control, while creating an environment where you can have the birth experience you’ve envisioned.

Supporting your partner postpartum involves offering both physical and emotional assistance as they recover from childbirth. Helping with baby care, household chores, and ensuring your partner has time to rest are essential ways to ease their burden. Equally important is providing emotional support—listening to their feelings, offering reassurance, and validating their experiences. Encourage self-care by reminding them to take moments for themselves and support their feeding choices, whether breastfeeding or otherwise. It’s crucial to be patient, stay informed about the challenges they may face, and be proactive in recognizing signs of postpartum depression or anxiety. By offering understanding and nurturing care, you create a supportive environment that allows your partner to heal and bond with the baby.

Signs of labor include regular contractions, changes in the cervix, water breaking, bloody show, and increased vaginal discharge. These signs can indicate that labor is starting, but it’s important to note that every woman’s experience is different.
